Back to School – Back to Reality, Goodbye Summer.

I can’t say it enough, I need to live somewhere where there is endless summer. Summer just slips away, right through our fingertips. The hands of time move quicker than ever and when we least want it to.

I’m almost positive school just got out. Those sweet smiling photos of the last day of school with side walk chalk and bubbles galore. Tossing the backpacks into the hall closet and not having to worry about if your homework is done or if you’re going to have your favorite snack in your lunch box tomorrow. School was out for summer, just not for very long.

I always have so many expectations for summer. So many things I want to do with my family and have my daughter experience but it just doesn’t always happen that way. In fact most of the time, it doesn’t even come close.

This year, it was all about soaking up every minute with my little brother that I could. He’s off to college tomorrow (cue the sobbing sister in her car listening to mixtapes). This year was about our first vacation away without the rest of my family and coping with change. This year was about not setting so many expectations, not making a giant list of to dos and more so just enjoying each moment and soaking up the sunshine. Pretty sure we nailed that one in the head, summer definitely isn’t over, but it’s close.

Now, now it’s time to head back to reality. Reality as in the crazy pick ups and drop offs while having your hair half done and a coffee stain on your pajama shirt. That pajamas shirt your trying to pass off causally as your day clothes while staring noticing the parents who have it all together and probably cooked an entire breakfast, worked out and are dressed to the nines. Noticing the parents just like you doing their best and killing the coffee stain look as well. You try to pre plan the night before but let’s face it you’ll wake up and the dog will knock over a plant, your kids will throw fits and your gas light will come on. The planning never ends but life never stops throwing the curveballs.

I swear, I could wake up earlier and earlier every single day and I’ll still be in the same boat. On those rare occasions – I’ll have a phenomenal morning, get their first, park right up from and I’ll look like the boss mother who has her life under nothing but sweet control. I said rare occasion, don’t forget.

I think the most heart breaking thing is realizing that when school years come around you are just another year closer to your baby/babies being grown up. Sorry parents, had to say it. I literally toss and turn sometimes wondering how that even happened but that’s for another blog!

As for now, I’ll soak up the rest of the sunshine. I’ll flip flop away the day. T-shirt dresses and wet hair will still be my go-to look when running errands and the AC are still in use in this house. No chunky sweaters or hot coffees yet. Long live summer!

I had a low key but productive Summer with my kids too. Alot of firsts for my 8 month old and some quality bonding time with my family. My 11 year old is starting middle school and I’m nervous but excited for her. Good luck this school year!

Aw I’m sure she will do amazing! – The memories from summer are always my favorite! Is it just the two that you have?

Yes. Avery is my son and he had a few firsts this Summer. He did very well on all our trips and he enjoys socializing with new people.

I have a gap of 12 years with my younger brother and we are still as close as close can be. So I was interested in hearing if you only had the two as well. Yay for a summer full of first times!💕
