Four Christmases

What the heck just happened? Did Christmas happen or was it just another day of the year that I was exhausted and waltzing through the day in a complete fog wondering how many hours left until bed? Jeez Louise Batman! It was a blink of an eye and if I could re do it, maybe just maybe I would….maybe.

Have you ever seen the movie with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon, Four Christmases? It’s my favorite to watch but to live it, well that’s another story! The chaos is real but I actually wouldn’t trade it for the world. This year, possibly just because I needed some sleep.

Twas the night before Christmas and this mama was wrapping like a last minute elf.

By midnight I was done and 1:30am rolled around my mind wouldn’t shut off and my eyes wouldn’t close. Then all of a sudden I woke up from a sound sleep at 3:30am and watched the sun come up just to catch one more hour of a snooze before my child woke up. I one eyed it through the first half of her presents and my family arrived for a breakfast I had to cook. Thank god I had some help from T because I was literally in such a daze that I missed my cup and poured OJ on my mom and dog! Oopsie!

By the end of the first family encounter I was literally praying for a nap but then it was directly into the next batch of presents and a visit from Ts mom. It went well and I was snuggled on the couch with nothing to do but enjoy! We all laid down and tried to nap but basically just ending up zoning out and watching tv until we realized we were set to be late for lunch at Grandpas house! Another “oopsie!” We made it.. 50 minutes late but the food was delish and the company was great!

Home quickly for 45 minutes enough to throw a green bean casserole together and gather our presents for the 4th Christmas at my moms house with her side of the family.this is actually my favorite meal of the day because stuffed shells and meatballs just call to me! Yummm! Everyone loves green bean casserole so I always bring that to go with it. We have dips and shrimp cocktail and then finish off with cheesecakes and other sweet treats! Presents by the fireplace as everyone is gathered around, this is what Christmas is all about.

Although I was beyond exhausted and some of the day is a blur it ended the way it always does and I love it. We finished off the night watching Christmas Vacation in bed eating more snacks (I gained some lbs that day).. so if I could keep everything the exact same way but maybe add a few hours asleep I would, but I’d never change a single thing about our chaotic Christmas Day.
